She unlocks the door to her room and slips inside, pushing the door gently shut with her foot.
Ruin is asleep in her (their) bed. She sits down on the edge next to him and watches him sleep, hands (shaking) resting on her lap.

His eyes flutter open and he looks up at her. His smile blooming smile becomes a frown when he sees her expression.
"What's up, Legs?" he asks with a sleep-thick voice.

She swallows hard, then tries again.
"Did...has anybody said anything to you about running into you from a different time?"

"And tonight...tonight I ran into you."
no subject
"I do hope I behaved myself."
no subject
"No, no. You were fine, you were...you weren't alone."
She meets his eyes.
"You had our daughter with you."
no subject
"I don't want kids, Mary Anne."

take what you want and pay for it, says God
"Neither did I."

(blood everywhere loud squalling while she bled little boy in her arms as she bled and bled and her blood on his hands on their bed)
"I will never have children again. Maybe it was just one of those maybe paths."
(grubby little girl with no name shoved at him given to him loved him needed him grew up calling him Ruin not Papa his eyes his blood his power ruined her as he ruined them all)
"You don't want them. I don't want them. We won't have them."
There is pain in his eyes that he tries to make look like anger.
Tries.

"Look at me," she says.
"Whatever happens, it's four hundred years down the line. A lot can change in that much time; look at us, huh?"
She offers up a wobbly smile. "Hasn't even been a year and look at us. But I promise you--I promise you--the one thing that's not changing is me going anywhere. And if...if you don't..."
She can't say it. She wants to say it, wants to say it so desperately for him
(if you don't want that little girl, it's okay)
but she can't.

He sighs.
"Was she... happy?" he asks quietly.
no subject
"Seven years old, blonde hair, blue-grey eyes. And so happy."
She pauses a moment before adding. "She has a little sister."
no subject
no subject
"No, I guess not."
no subject
"Two girls. How old was the second one? Was she there, too?"
no subject
"No...you'd left her with Moon and Fate."
no subject
no subject
"Possibly. But if Fate was there too, I think we can trust her not to just set her down somewhere and forget."
no subject
He closes his eyes.
"Four hundred years, and two kids."
no subject
She tips her head back a little to better see his face.
"You okay?"
no subject
"Are you?"
no subject
"I mean, I've managed not to have a panic attack thus far, so...I think that counts as okay."
no subject
His eyes open.
"Good."
no subject
They never said she wasn't persistant.
...you don't have to be.

I had two children, neither of which I wanted. I can only hope I want these two future ones.
Sorrow had never faulted him for his lack of warmth and fatherly love, but he always thought she was the Three of Swords because of the deep sorrow she carried with her because of him.
